Flight Training
Info Packet
Part
141 Training
Part 141 describes a category of FAA regulations under which training is
conducted. The biggest difference between Part 61 and Part 141 training here
is the ground school. During Part 61 training, students will have ground
instruction one-on-one with one of our certified flight instructors.
However, Pittsburgh Flight Training Center provides Part 141 training in
association with the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC).
In the CCAC program, students will participate in ground school classes
that meet at the south campus--typically Wednesday
nights and Saturday mornings. In correlation with the ground school at CCAC,
students will take the knowledge they learn in the classroom and apply it to
their flight lessons here at PFTC.
Training under Part 141 regulations will also allow you to be eligible
for a $2,457 performance refund that is yours to keep. To obtain this
refund, a student must complete their course within a year with a grade of
"C" or higher.
More information can be found in this
packet.
To register for Part 141 courses at your level of flight, view the
courses available for the next semester, visit
www.ccac.edu, and register for the courses online or at CCAC south
campus. To register for the flight portion of Part 141 training, the
instructor of the theory course or Jerry Labuskes will need to authorize any
payments or registration. Please contact the flight school or speak with
your instructor to arrange authorization.
Part
61 Training
Part 61 describes a category of FAA regulations under which training is
conducted. A Part 61 student is able to work on their training at their own
pace one-on-one with a certified flight instructor (CFI). They are able to
pay as they go and train without the pressure of attending a structured
ground school class.
Most Part 61 students finish their Private Pilot training in about 55
flight hours. Some finish in less time and some finish in more time. A Part
61 student's success is dependent on their
studying outside of the flight school and their ability to learn quickly.
For more information on training as a Part 61 student please
contact us. Our rates can be found on this
rate sheet.
Biennial
Flight Review (BFR)
A biennial flight review (BFR) is required of pilots to maintain currency
within a 24 month period. It is required regardless of hours or age. A
medical certificate is required to complete a BFR at PFTC. It must be at
least one hour flight and one hour ground, but may be longer based on the
instructor's discretion. We schedule a four hour block for BFRs. It can be
on two separate days, but must be completed by same instructor! Here are
some links to help your BFR go as smoothly as possible!
